Not sure if this is different because I have only been here nine months - BUT - we don't get any junk mail. No catalogs, no free credit card offers. I get junk SMS messages and telemarketing calls, but in terms of actual paper junk mail - no! It is such a delight. I came home to one piece of mail from my sister!

Went to Chennai and Kolkuta and now we are going to Kerala. Will post more about our travelling later.

I loved the food at Saravana Bhavan and was a little sad to hear about the history of the owner. I had some good food in Kolkuta too - at at Peter Cat and also at the roll place on Park St.

Before we left Chennai we went to Basilica of San Thome. One of the apostles at the last dinner with christ was doubting Thomas. Then apparently he was a missionary in India and was killed and this church was built. Supposedly according to the sign there are only three apostle tomb churches - Rome Spain and Chennai (btw there are always signs like this proclaiming how India matches up with the rest of the world, ok already, you are a great country). Anyway, it was interesting. In the church were little stories about all the apostles which I found interesting and the church is right by the beach, so it was a nice way to end our stay in Chennai.

Went to the Indian museum in Kolkuta yesterday. overwhelming in the amount of stuff. Interesting dioramas about the different tribes in India. taking it easy today. internet at the hotel (expensive! 300 rps/hr) reading books at Oxford Bookstore, internet at Iway (cheap 30 rps/hr) and coming up soon, sweets at Flurys.

woooo!

so Hyderabad is famous for Haleem which you get during Ramzan which is now and we are here - I really wanted some and due to exhaustion and colds and the convenience of staying in the hotel we didn't make it out for haleem until our last night here, but wqe did it. Asked the driver of the auto to take us to Hyderabad House and ended up at Paradise, but what the heck. Paradise is HUGE, you can order to go haleem, stand up and eat haleem, sit down in non-AC haleem and top floor fancy restaurant haleem. we went for the fancy restaurant (cost total: 250 rps for haleem, naan, paratha, lime soda sweet) and the haleem was delicious - omg is it filling. goat that has been cooked for 8 hrs with wheat and spices, fried onions on top. it was a mild spicy level and glutinous. that makes the second new food I have had here that has the consistency of goo.
