I had a GREAT time in Botswana. If you want to follow along on a map we drove from Joburg to Gabarone the first day, then the second day was a very long drive to Maun going on the West side of the Kalahari desert, going through Ghazi, which is the long way round. We slept in Maun and spent the next morning getting permits, food, fuel, water etc. Then we headed north and slept at Moremi. We didn't get there until 530 pm. We had one tent for the five of us, because a second tent would not fit in the car. We were really packed into the car - there was stuff on our laps and at our feet. We spent a second night at Moremi, but in a different campsite, in hopes that the hyena that ate our car would not return. Then we moved to Savuti after that and got stuck in the deep sand three times on the way there. Then back to Maun, where we stayed at the Old Bridge backpackers, which had beds in a tent, which felt like luxury after three nights on the ground w no padding. Then we drove back to Gabarone, going through Serowe.

We saw lots of animals up close, my favorite being the magnificent elephants. They eat trees. I like the warthogs too, they are very cute. We saw lots of ostriches and donkeys and goats by the side of the road on the way up. I'm even willing to go camping again!
